چکیده

This study investigated the effects of an amylase-enabled corn silage on lactational performance, enteric CH4 emission, and rumen fermentation lactating dairy cows. Following a 2-wk covariate period, 48 Holstein cows were blocked based parity, days in milk, milk yield (MY), emission. Cows randomly assigned to 1 2 treatments 8-wk randomized complete block design experiment: (1) control (CON) from isogenic without ?-amylase trait (2) Enogen hybrid (Syngenta Seeds LLC) harvested as (ECS) containing bacterial transgene expressing (i.e., amylase-enabled) endosperm grain. The ECS CON silages included at 40% dietary dry matter (DM) contained, average, 43.3 41.8% DM (% DM) 36.7 37.5% neutral detergent fiber, 36.1 33.1% starch, respectively. Rumen samples collected subset 10 using ororuminal sampling technique wk 3 experimental period. Enteric emission was measured GreenFeed system (C-Lock Inc.). Dry intake (DMI) similar between treatments. Compared with CON, MY (38.8 vs. 40.8 kg/d), feed efficiency (1.47 1.55 kg MY/kg DMI), true protein (1.20 1.25 kg/d) lactose yields (1.89 2.00 increased, whereas urea nitrogen (14.0 12.7 mg/dL) decreased, diet. No effect treatment energy-corrected (ECM) observed, but trend detected for increased ECM (1.45 1.50 ECM/kg DMI) fed compared CON-fed Daily not affected by treatment, intensity decreased diet (11.1 10.3 g/kg ECS, respectively); basis different fermentation, apart reduced molar proportion butyrate ECS-fed cows, treatment. Apparent total-tract digestibility nutrients urinary fecal excretions, Overall, inclusion protein, efficiency, tended increase had no led decrease intensity, silage.

Increasing harvest maturity of whole-plant corn silage reduces methane emission of lactating dairy cows.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of increasing maturity of whole-plant corn at harvest on CH4 emissions by dairy cows consuming corn silage (CS) based diets. Whole-plant corn was harvested at a very early [25% dry matter (DM); CS25], early (28% DM; CS28), medium (32% DM; CS32), and late (40% DM; CS40) stage of maturity. In a randomized block design, 28 lactating Holste...

Methane production, digestion, ruminal fermentation, nitrogen balance, and milk production of cows fed corn silage- or barley silage-based diets.

This study evaluated the effects of replacing barley silage (BS) with corn silage (CS) in dairy cow diets on enteric CH4 emissions, ruminal fermentation characteristics, digestion, milk production, and N balance. Nine ruminally cannulated lactating cows were used in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design (32-d period) and fed (ad libitum) a total mixed ration (TMR; forage:concentrate ratio 60:4...

Effect of type and level of dietary fat on rumen fermentation and performance of dairy cows fed corn silage-based diets.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of tallow and choice white grease (CWG) fed at 0, 2, and 4% of the diet dry matter (DM) on rumen fermentation and performance of dairy cows when corn silage is the sole forage source. Fifteen midlactation Holstein cows were used in a replicated 5 x 5 Latin square design with 21-d periods. Treatments were 0% fat (control), 2% tallow, 2% ...

Influence of corn silage particle length on the performance of lactating dairy cows fed supplemental tallow.

The objective of this study was to determine if the length of chop of processed corn silage influences the impact of supplemental fat on rumen fermentation and performance of dairy cows. We hypothesized that increasing forage particle length may alleviate the interference of fat on rumen fermentation. Sixteen Holstein cows averaging 120 d in milk were used in a replicated 4 x 4 Latin square des...

The effect of corn silage particle size on eating behavior, chewing activities, and rumen fermentation in lactating dairy cows.

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate effects of reducing corn silage particle size on eating behavior, chewing activity, and rumen fermentation in lactating dairy cows. Four cannulated, multiparous cows averaging 110 +/- 4 d in milk and weighing 675 +/- 70 kg were randomly assigned to a 4 x 4 Latin square. During each of four 14-d periods, animals were offered one of four diets that...
